VI) Connecting Through a Firewall or Proxy Server
================================================
If you connect to the Internet through a firewall or proxy server you
might have problems playing a remote game against an opponent on the
Internet due to the firewall or proxy server. Your firewall or proxy
server might need to be configured for Virtual Pool 3 in order for
remote Internet play to work. This section gives information on how to
configure a firewall or proxy server for successful play over the internet.
It includes examples for some popular firewalls/proxy servers.

In general, VP3 uses ports 60876 thru 60976 for internet access. Specifically,
VP3 uses port 60876 for remote connection, and uses ports 60877-60976 to
communicate with GameSpy Arcade. The communication with GameSpy Arcade is
initially attempted on port 60877, and if VP3 is unable to open that port it
will try 60878, etc., up to port 60976. Also, both TCP and UDP needs to be
allowed on those ports.

Initial TCP Connection: 60876 Outbound, 60876 Inbound

Initial UDP Connection: 60876 Outbound, 60876 Inbound

Initial TCP Connection: 60877 Outbound, 60877 Inbound
Subsequent Inbound TCP Connections: 60878-60976
Subsequent Outbound TCP Connections: 60877-60976

Initial UDP Connection: 60877 Outbound, 60877 Inbound
Subsequent Inbound UDP Connections: 60878-60976
Subsequent Outbound UDP Connections: 60877-60976

How to configure Sygate 3.1 from Sybergen Networks if you want to play
over the internet:

Add the following lines to the Sygate apprule.cfg file after the line
containing the comment ## USER DEFINITION ##. Make sure that the ports
mapped here don't conflict with other game rules already defined. If
there is a conflict you can comment out the other rules if they are not
needed, or one set of rules might work for both applications.

How to configure Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 if you want to play Virtual Pool 3
over the internet (This configuration has not been tested and is provided as
an example only):

Example of a Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Configuration:
Internet Service Manager, Windows Sockets Proxy service: Service Properties
Add protocol "VP3 Server TCP" under Protocols tab.
	    Initial connection
		60876 TCP Inbound
	    Subsequent connections
		60876 TCP Outbound
Give appropriate permissions to "VP3 Server TCP" under Permissions tab.

Add protocol "VP3 Server UDP" under Protocols tab.
	    Initial connection
		60876 UDP Inbound
	    Subsequent connections
		60876 UDP Outbound
Give appropriate permissions to "VP3 Server UDP" under Permissions tab.

Give appropriate permissions to "VP3 GameSpy UDP" under Permissions tab.

Add to file "mspclnt.ini", which is in the C:\Msp\Clients folder by default.
	[Common Configuration]
	RemoteBindUdpPorts=60878-60976

How to configure a Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router:
Under the "Advanced" tab, select "Forwarding". Under the "Service Port Range"
enter 60876 into the left box, 60976 in the right box. Under "Protocol" select
"Both". Under "IP Address" enter the last number of the local IP address of the
computer you will be using to play Virtual Pool 3. When everything is
configured correctly click Apply, and you are done!

How to configure Zone Labs ZoneAlarm (Freeware version):
VP3 needs both access to the internet and to be allowed to be a "server".
The first time you try to play VP3 online ZoneAlarm will ask if you want to
allow it to access the internet, answer yes. It will then ask you if it
should be allowed to be a server. Again, answer yes.

You can also adjust the access rights VP3 has by using the Zone Alarm Control
Center. In the Control Center, select the "Programs" button. Make sure that
there is a checkmark besides Virtual Pool 3 for "Allow Server" for both
Local and Ethernet.
